PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

New Norfolk High is a respectful learning community with high expectations for all. On of the ways in which we show that is through the diversity of opportunities we provide students. Over the last fortnight, we have events ranging from the Cross-Country Colour Run, to a special guest speaker at Assembly to the Science & Engineering Challenge at the University of Tasmania (UTAS).

Feedback about the Colour Run from staff and students was outstanding, with long serving staff members suggesting it was the most positive carnival they have experienced in their time here. This was a really fun day, a qualifying event for the 50 students now set to run at the Inter-High Cross Country event on Friday and a great opportunity to further develop our Value of Connection.

Our Special Guest Speaker at Assembly last week was Trent Henderson. Trent, who is demonstrating Connection in action by running 110 marathons in 110 days to raise money for Speak Up! Stay ChatTY. He delivered some very relevant messages about positive mental health and also shared the inspiring story of his own journey and the connections that led to his current (almost finished!) challenge.

Our team were buzzing on return from the Science & Engineering Challenge at UTAS. They improved on their result overall from the previous year, with some standout performances coming in the Wind Turbine Challenge (when our teams beat all comers in both the morning and afternoon sessions) and the morning session of the Fish Traps challenge. If you tuned in to WIN News last week, you may also have seen some of our students speaking on camera about the event!

This is only a taste of the events which have taken place over the past fortnight, but it is so encouraging to be able to reflect on the diversity of opportunities, the engagement and achievement of our students. All great examples of the New Norfolk Way!
