OzHarvest FEAST Program: Creative Cooking with a Purpose

This term, students took part in the OzHarvest FEAST program, a food education initiative that promotes sustainability, nutrition, and reducing food waste. The program encouraged students to think critically about how food is used and how small changes can make a big difference.

To conclude the unit, students participated in a "Use It Up" pantry practical, where they were challenged to prepare a dish using leftover ingredients or items nearing their shelf life. This hands-on activity allowed students to apply their creativity and kitchen skills in a fun and meaningful way.

The results were both inventive and delicious — students prepared a variety of dishes including apple crumbles, butter chicken, tacos, banana bread, and chicken burgers with chips. The activity was a highlight of the term, and students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to experiment and cook with purpose.
