Welcome back to Term 4. We hope all members of our school community enjoyed their break and are refreshed and recharged ready for a busy final term of school.
As always our final Term of school is full of exciting events as we celebrate the outstanding learning that has occurred this year. Please keep an eye on the calendar in our newsletter to keep up to date with what is happening at our school. Our focus value this term is courage and we look forward to seeing the ways in which members of our school community display courage throughout the term.
On Tuesday of this week we will welcome Year 6 students to our school for a scavenger hunt which will be one of our orientation activities designed to ensure a smooth transition to Year 7 in 2023. We are proud of the courage these students have taken already in their transition journey and look forward to welcoming them into our school community. We would also like to remind all prospective parents that our Year 7 Parent information evening will be held on Tuesday, 25th October.
This Thursday many of our current Year 9 students will also be displaying courage when they deliver their prefect speeches to our school assembly. We are so proud of the large numbers of students who have nominated to be a prefect and we wish them all the best of luck.
Nominations close this Friday for any current Year 8 or 9 students who would like to apply for a Packages of Learning class for next year. The Packages of Learning will be:
- Architecture and Construction
- Hospitality and Tourism
Packages of Learning are a different approach to teaching and, for students, a different way to learn. They offer a hands-on, integrated approach to teaching the core subjects of the Australian Curriculum, i.e. English, Maths, Science and HASS. As part of a students’ learning, they will be asked to ‘solve’ real world problems facing industry, learn practical skills, and participate in a varied range of learning opportunities. By participating in the Packages of Learning, students will have access to a range of vocational learning opportunities and gain insights into career pathways by understanding industry trends and future opportunities. We encourage all interested students to complete the form that was sent home last week (spare copies are available from the office). If you have any questions about the Packages of Learning please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Best wishes for a great Term 4!

Term 4 is a very busy term and the staff at NNHS have many activities lined up for students. There are opportunities for students to participate in more than one water based activity. Last week, a permission form regarding swimming abilities was sent home in preparation for these water actvities, the first being the Swimming Trials on Wednesday 26th October in anticipation of the Interhigh Swimming Carnival. Please send the form back to school even if your child isn't participating in the swimming trials. The form gives permission to participate in all water based activities this term, including a trip to the pool and the beach.
Please contact the school if you wish to have a new form sent home.
During Term 3, Grade 7 Geography students learnt about what makes a place liveable and unliveable, the importance of considering the varied needs of everyone within their community, how we can improve liveability, and how needs change over time. Students demonstrated their understanding of liveability within a community when they were appointed town planner and were required to design their own town.

To kick off the term, and on a glorious sunny day, the Kitchen Garden students brought out the scarecrow they had made. He’s been called ‘Gary’, and provided much entertainment to staff and students throughout the first week back.

On the 19th October, students from Year 12 Life Sciences, had the opportunity to visit the Marine Discovery Centre in Woodbridge to learn about ecosystems diversity and dynamics. Eight year 10 students joined the excursion. The group spent time on-board a ship, where everyone was involved collecting data of abiotic factors such as salinity and oxygen content. They also collected samples from the sea floor to classify and count the different organisms collected. Students fed fish in the tank, patted a pregnant shark and observed fascinating marine life. Students learnt about the complexities of climate change and how it is impacting our marine ecosystem.
