New Norfolk High is a respectful learning community with high expectations for ourselves, for each other & for the way in which we learn together. One recent example of The New Norfolk Way is the fact that 95% of our Y10 students have already completed their transition plans. Students are required to remain in school until they turn 18 or finish their TCE or the equivalent, such as a traineeship or apprenticeship. It has been great to see so many embracing this as an opportunity, not just an obligation, through pursuing work experience or other pathway experiences such as the recent Tailgate or Hydro Grip excursions exposing students to new industries and employment opportunities.
For teachers, another example of The New Norfolk Way has been working together this term on developing consistent routines for entering classes and gaining all students attention. It has been great to see teachers working together to make evidence-based improvements in these areas. Having a consistent approach between classes also supports students to make positive starts to their lesson and is an example of the work we are going as part of our School Improvement Goal for quality teaching and learning.
Finally, it was wonderful to see the culmination of so much student learning at Monday afternoon’s student show case. In addition to the evidences of learning we began to share with families when we introduced the Student Showcase, this year we also had student made food & drinks available from our Swan Café, a string of student musical performances & a fantastic display of student work from across our Arts & Technology subjects. We continue to work on improving the way in which we share progress in learning with families and this was another great step on that journey. As a representative from the Derwent Valley Concert Band, who attended to see several of our students in the DVCB Learner Program perform, posted to Facebook later, “the future is looking bright!”

AP REPORT - TEACHING AND LEARNING
Our Student Showcase event was held on Monday afternoon. On behalf of the organising committee I want to thank everyone that joined us at this event. Your presence and support is great encouragement for the students, who have worked tirelessly to put their talents and passions on display.
The learning that was on display through our musical performances, foods, MDT, drama and art exhibitions. It's through community engagement like this that we can inspire, encourage, and nurture the next generation of innovators, creators, and leaders.
Evidence of Learning
At our Student Showcase we handed out our Evidence for Learning that students have been completing during Term 3. Work samples from core subjects including English, Maths, HASS/History and HPE were included. Well done to all the students for putting together this learning to share with people at home.
If you wish to discuss anything about Evidence of Learning, your child’s progress or application to learning then please contact the school.

Within Year 8 HASS this Term students have commenced their study of Geography delving into ‘landforms and landscapes’. The second half of the year in HASS is dedicated to Geographical learning as we transition from studying History towards an exploration of the world around us and the processes that shape landforms and landscapes. Soon, we will be examining ‘landscapes shaped by water’, followed by ‘changing nations’, where students can use their geographical knowledge to pose potential questions and answers to real-world situations.

In the Grade 8 Media elective, staff and students have been exploring the world of mass communication, and how we are all influenced by the visuals around us. During these lessons, students have worked hard to create visual displays for the classroom, including posters and their own unique cereal. So far in Term 3, we have looked into stereotyping, advertisements, and propaganda, and will shortly be looking at ethics and how to be morally responsible online.

Over the last week we have participated in the next instalment of our Reclink Community Series, this term being netball. Over two different days we took a boys’ team and a girls’ team to the competitions. Both these days were filled with very skillful and fast paced netball. There were some very positive results across both days but unfortunately, we didn't progress to the finals. I would like to say a big well done to all our students on their continued efforts and respectful behaviour on the day. Also a big thank you to Reclink who continue to provide us with great opportunities to compete in inter school sport.
